Homemade shooting Bags

The wife's been busy making me 3 of these over the last few nights, they come in handy when sighting in rifles or shooting a few targets for fun with the kids, I mostly use mine shooting foxes (I just leave it on the bonnet and when I find a fox that needs sorting out I just grab it, position it where I want it and send a little bit of copper via airmail on it's way.

Cheers mate, easy enough to make too, I generally use calico or old jeans when I want some made up but had some of the camo material floating around for a while and thought I might as well put that to use, these ones are filled with coarse grit as I couldn't find any dry sand anywhere around home so figured that stuff will do, should do the job nicely I'm sure.

Try and get her to have a shot of a 22 - I did that with my wife and the rest is history, even my kids shoot now all have licences and own their own rifles and they come out spotlighting and hunting with me now.

I've tried mate she hates guns.

But my son is in process of getting his licence. He was gonna get a 22 but now he's gonna get a 223 and i will get a 22. But not till after Xmas as he's saving to go to Perth for holiday

Bloody oath mate I love making my own things still got a kangaroo skin sling I made for a 22 when I was a young fella still going strong and probably the most comfortably one I have.

We must go into business together.
I have a natural pit of coarse granite sand here that is so good you can use it for mortar or concrete straight out of the pit.
In fact when this house was built, that's what was used for all the mortar.

It weighs sh!tloads too, and would do your sandbags a treat.

meh, they don't eat much and it gives me trapping experience i don;t put the rice in my sock id be up on chemical warfare charges

Wheat in a ziplock plastic bag, tape it up & then in the sock. Mice cant smell it.

Sounds similar to my experience with a fishing bag with pelletised burley in it, bloody rats and mice ate the crap out of that bag trying to get the burley

Which is sorta what you want really, I'd say my bags way around 4-5kg roughly, the kids don't seem to have trouble carrying em I leave mine sitting on the bonnet when out spotlighting, they tend to say right where I left them which is great and if I really was worried about them shifting around I could always stitch some magnets into them but honestly haven't had a need for it over 10yrs of using em so can't see that changing. Simple/cost effective and quick to make - right up my alley

Jean Legs make great sandbags too, stitch along 2 sides and ya in business and they are very durable too (I think I have 3 or 4 of those floating around the place too, along with calico ones, they all get used when the kids and wife get to playing on the spinners and gongs etc.

I just checked Bunnings and all they have is regular sand. Was thinking I can always fill them with red sand as there'll be plenty of that down there. Half tempted to go buy a pair of $10 jeans from Vinnies to get the legs and make a few bags in different sizes.

I bought a few bags of coarse pebble sand I think it was called - anyway got it from Masters. How would they know what you have in ya bags mate?

Thanks Bigfella, I'll head up to Masters tomorrow and grab a bag. I managed to blow a hole in my large Caldwell bag so I'll get the missus to make up a few from jean legs.

Not a prob Brett, I got this out in their Gardening Section - the jean legs work will I've found and a good repurpose for something that would otherwise end up in the bin.
