GDay my mate and I knocked this up this morning as we need a portable bench. A quick trip to town to Bunnings + some scrap from the workshop.

Nice one mate, these adjustable Platform Ladders make good shooting benches too, whack a bit of timber on top and they are good to go and have a bit of adjustability in them too.

Hi Scott/Oldbloke
Didn't think of the ladder idea. Mate made the brackets and legs, bought a beech laminated bench top from Bunnings cut it in half sandwiched cup head bolts between some hard wood to bolt the brackets and done. We are fairly proud of it it beats my Caldwell stable table that rocks around too much.
Some more pics.

Nothing wrong with that setup mate, maybe add some adjustability into the legs would be all I'd do for the uneven ground we sometimes encounter or you could carry some wooden shims (millions of ways to overcome uneven ground I guess) Pretty sure my mate bought the same top for his too, really makes life a lot easier when ti comes to shooting in the bush, well worth having and on my to do list too.

Get the wife or girlfriend to knock up a few sandbags and you'll be set ( use jean legs or any material really is good enough, a bit of sand from a sandpit and you are good to go. :D

Just waiting for the last trailer to fill then back to the yard, load it and some rifles out to the gravel pit and test it.

This what I used yesterday. It fully folds up but flimsy. I do like BFS idea.

That's a good quick fix. BFS idea is the go this one cost about $60.00 in purchased material, if we make another one with the other half of the bench top..

This is the Caldwell stable table I bought a while ago. It moves too much as the seat is attached to the frame.

Looks great Mate.
It'd be a shame to get it dirty,, :D

When you buy the RHS for the legs, you can also get the next size up (or down) so that it fits either inside or outside of the main leg material.
(you have to play around with wall thickness so as to get a neat sliding fit)
Then with a T bolt, thru a nut spot welded in place, you have infinitely adjustable telescopic legs.
