Laser range finder and wildlife cameras are on sale in a week. Has anyone purchased these in the past? Are they any good?

Generator looks ok for the $ and something I can leave up bush and not be overly worried if stolen.

Good advice, I usually staple the receipt to the manual then file it with all the other manuals. Makes for a single point of reference when things blow up several months after purchase.

I got the previous model they had on sale, I think around 6-9 months ago. Just last weekend I went and picked it up from the bush after leaving it there for 12 weeks, still working no problem and takes quite good quality photos and video. I do recommend these units if you are after a trail cam, cant go wrong for the price.

Do trail cameras ever get stolen?

And exactly where did you leave it?
And any pics?

They certainly do get stolen. Most people just wave at the camera and move along. There are those among us who are morally challenged however. Try not to make them too obvious.

Sorry OB, didn't see your post til now. Below is a day and night shot of the camera. The forum doesn't do it justice as its shrinking the image when I upload it, but I have the camera to take 3x 12MP photos when motion is detected. If you want to see a full resolution pic let me know and ill upload one on an external hosting site.
Mines (obviously) never been stolen, but then I don't think anyone has ever seen it, never had a picture of a person on there and it's never been tampered with. I think the key is to place it somewhere well off the track where only another hunter might find it and then you'd hope they'd have the courtesy to leave it be.

In its last position it was attached to a tree in state forest west of Melb. Don't want to give away my prime hunting spots now! :friends:
As for the unit itself, its pretty much identical to the Aldi one, maybe the plastic shroud on the outside is slightly different.

I purchased 2 LRF, (one for a mate) went to turn them on NOTHING. Will be returning them this week. Not happy, but hoping the replacements will work.
Yes I did keep the receipt, even scanned it because on thermal paer.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Sorry to ask such a basic question Col but are you sure you put the battery in the correct way?

Mine worked as it should. Have only tested it out to 350m so far. Have seen reports of 700m tests although not verified to a known distance.

Presson,

Good question and an obvious one.
Yes I did, and tried the battery from the other unit I bought, and put it in the other way also. No go. Even read the instructions, still no joy. Nothing shows in viewfinder, no lights or anything, in both units so maybe bad batch of batteries or something.
Will return them when I go back on Friday, 580km round trip, lucky I am going for other jobs. :)

Hey Col, not trying to be a smart-arse, but did you remove the plastic off the batteries?? :unknown:
Bought one for sh*ts and giggles, just took it out the back paddock and checked out the silhouette range. All checked out, distances were +/- 2m at 200, 300, 385 and 500m, sighting on the silhouettes themselves.. Got good results at 600, 700 and 800 yards. Unable to get any readings at 900 and 1000 but my splash-plate is only about 4ft high by 2ft wide.
I'll try it again some other time with a bigger target to aim it at, a vehicle perhaps.

Was actually after a couple of cameras to put at the front and back gates to the farm, sick of "unwanted" visitors coming in through the neighbors. No luck, all gone at the 3 stores we went to.

I picked up a camera today and seemed no shortage here but all else gone. How many cameras do you want, cost plus freight?

in town tomorrow...

I just went down and checked 2 stores. No range finders left. That's what I get for hesitating because I wasn't sure of the quality.
