How to save $20 to $30 or thereabouts

Post by Die Judicii » 28 Oct 2017, 12:59 am

Quite some time ago I purchased a Bore Guide for my Howa.
Just recently I thought about getting another one for a different rifle.
I couldn't find listed, a bore guide that was intended for this particular rifle so I emailed the company asking if they had the one I was after.
Got a reply the next day saying they would "look into it and get back to me."

Needless to say, they never did.

Tonight I got that rifle out to clean it, and after removing the bolt and looking at it, I had a bright idea.

Going into the garden shed, I cut off a piece of 1/2" garden hose slightly longer than the bolt.
Taking it back to the rifle I slid it in. ah hah,,,,,,, PERFECT

It worked well and prevented the Sweets from dripping into the trigger mechanism etc.

$$$$$$$ saved  :D

A chopped nozzle, something like this: http://www.brisbanetoolandhardware.com. ... 84220l.bmp works well too. You can cut a case, insert it into the nozzle and have it fit perfectly into your chamber... Had to do it for Marlin, to avoid completely taking it apart to clean the barrel from the breach end.

I used to cut up garden hoses too, for different reasons.

Sounds nifty though.

Yer not wrong there Mate,,

I mean, those Possum Hollow guides are bloody good, but for what they are made of plus an O ring,, they are ridiculously priced.

The next one I need I'm gonna turn up myself in the lathe out of some nylon shaft.
Just imagine,, the profits one could make if you had a CNC lathe in your shed.
But, even with a basic everyday lathe, once you've made one or two,,, you could produce them pretty quickly.

I used to live in a neighbourhood where my garden hose would get shorter by about a foot a month. Everyone in the whole street must have been making bore guides...
