Muzzle breaks

Post by Bushie » 16 Dec 2017, 6:39 pm

Just bought a 30-06 Remington 7600

Love the gun and honestly can handle and don't mind the kick of a 30-06 but would love to chuck a muzzle break on it was just wondering if anyone knows where and how much

They suck big time. Even for the bloke shooting them, end up with your eyes full full of dust, your moth full of all sort of s**t off the ground. You had to be there :D

Check out chassis systems, but advise getting some good hearing protection, if your standing besides you will have your ears ringing.

Do you find the Remington 7600 smooth? ones i've used seem to be a bit of a mixed bag.

Havnt shot one yet but the action and trigger on any of felt are smooth as butter

When I said I can handle a 30 06 kick I'm referring to my Remington 783 which is about the same weight

But I've heard mostly good things about the 7600

Why do you actually want a brake? If it's a range gun, put that money aside and get a nice badass looking chassis, then a brake. Nothing worng with tacticool, but heavy stock is better than brake to start with. If it's a hunting gun, you generally shoot off hand or some weird supported position (that's more or less the same as off hand) and brake won't make a difference.

I would rather a badass chassis for sure don't get me wrong but they are expensiveeee

And you got me buddy is forbthe tacticoool look I'll admit it no shame

It was more or less for me just to see where and how much I would be looking at down the line as I put a deposit on this gun I don't even have the money for it yet let alone the accessories

If you know where some chassis are tho send me a link I would love to browse

Gday
I have factory brake on my TRG 22 - 308cal and the bake makes a considerable difference being on or off, the main reason i use the break is to keep an eye on the target.
Recoil on 308 is easy its more about either a follow up shot or if on range seeing the projectile hit for adjustment. I also shoot a Tikka T3 243 super varmint in a bell carlson stock but with the 23" Heavy varmint Barrel whether shooting off the roof rack or Bipod when spot lighting foxes I would get barrel jump and it take that sec to re aquire the target if dropped or for either a humane follow up or missed shot. I took it to Roy Alexanders and spoke with Corey and Craig they threaded and indexed barrel, supplied break ( only sides and top gas redirection means no Dust)and they peashot the break to also match barrel. Huge Difference on my 243, accuracy I believe better and barley any barrel jump my eye stays on target thru the shot and watch the bloody foxs drop at 100 - 300mts. cost me around $400 and worth every cent.
Yes at the range or with Mates on the ute you need proper ear protection, foam inserts wont do s**t - its Bloody Loud!

Your more than likely not wearing them correctly.

fellas, i LOVE muzzle breaks ! i have no probs bench shooting next to a muzzle break guy. it keeps the horseflies away out at ripley range REAL well(probably turns them to jelly mid-flight ) and showed up a poor scope on a cz 452 i bought. every time a muzz braked 308 went off next to me i could watch the crosshairs move around like crazy ! went out and bought a new scope and my cz shoots great ! so thanks muzzle break guys ! P.S i try to sit on the right of muzz brakes because i like my hair parted to the right ! :D

I like the guys with muzzle brakes at the range. Especially when they complain about the smoke from the muzzle loaders distracting their shooting

I'd rather the range be full of people with loud muzzles breaks then that one bloke that brings 2 tool boxes worth of stuff you don't need right then and there, that guy doesn't affect my life but he bugs me so bad

heh, I kinda thought that but then it changed...

I need a screw driver because I am a Marlin owner (yes, Supaduke, yes...)
And then maybe a set of allen wrenches for scopes and stock because you are hour at least away from home and that could salvage the trip
And then maybe a handful of chamber flags if you're at the range
Some targets
Sunscreen + bug spray
Bipod, because it doesn't fit in the rifle bag
Spare batteries and ear plugs
Pen/sharpie
Leatherman (this needs no explanation)
Pull throughs + lube/oil
Rag
Hearing and eye pro.
Snaks?
...it grows, especially when you are a long way away from home.

You f*** something up and learn what you need, to avoid a wasted shooting trip.

The second toolbox is for the ammo :)

If you buy precut patches, they come in a bag of 500 or 1000. So rather than messing around, maybe the person just took the original packaging... See, logical and justified LOL

I did however see a dude with three large toolboxes stacked on-top of eachother, well over 1m tall, strapped to a trolley. Had all his stuff in it, said it's easier to grab everything, then not. Made sense.

I take a toolbox, ammo box, pelican case with my spotting scope and an esky. I’m 45min from the range and It’s always the tool you leave at home that you need the most.

i pack all my range gear into a large sports/travel bag. i bring in cleaning rod and tool kit if im running in a new barrel, but i always have it in the car in case i need it anyway. if a shooter on the bench next to me wants to go really serious about it, well that's his bussiness. never know, ya might learn something from a fella like that. just saying.....

sungazer wrote:Depends on the range and the rules you are shooting under, type of rifle ect. So Gamerancher can give you the more correct answer. For Full Boar shooting it is required that bolts are removed before removing the rifle from the firing line. Also bolts must not be paced in the rifle until the rifle has been set up and is facing towards the target.
The flip side is that rifles can be handled away from the firing line as it must not have a bolt in it.

Cool, but what does full bore shooting entail? "Full bore" just means thirty-caliber and bigger to me.
