I would give it a coat of tung oil first see what it looks like. It will also raise the grain for a finer sanding.

No worries. I have a stock from Hatchers then I modified it a bit more and have finished it in just oils it looks great. It is not as hard wearing as say a two pack coat but I think that may have something to do with the wood more. You can oil it up as much as you want there is also a Watsons product that is called poly wipe or something like that it is a polyurethane laqur that is easy to apply like oil but gives it that laquared waterproof finish. The oil only is also waterproof.

Looks good Dbang...!

I forsee the future legend you'll become.

Legend will have it that there once lived a fearless croc hunter that would walk the shallows of the mangroves in bare feet & hunt crocs with his 22 mag.
A big croc once ate his entire family, so he hunted it for 10 yrs & finally got it--the skull of which he burnt the outline of into the stock...
He was known to be the best shot in living history of croc hunters...
And this was his rifle...
The man who knows everything, doesnt really know everything...he's just stopped learning...
