Found a 35 strong mob grazing in the dark last night but only managed to shoot two of them. They were staggered and spread out in an unusual manner and I was a bit rusty. Better luck tonight I hope

mate , in the high ridge country where i hunt , ya get smallish mobs of sows and piglets , shooting fish in a barrel at times. but the big boars are solitary and cunning. i've had them backtrack , hide , and even very quietly sneak back past me using cover . they don't get to be big old boars by being stupid . one day i worked out a big razorback had backtracked and i caught him climbing out of a gully opposite me . quietly worked the bolt, took aim at 30 meters , and CLICK ! trying to be quiet i'd short stroked the action and hadn't chambered a round FMD !

i don't have a thermal , so the best time for me is just before dawn , this is where a quality scope like a leupold is worth it's weight in gold . i catch them on their way back to their daytime hideout when their still in the open . i've got to spend more time sitting on dams during the day waiting for them to come to water . i used to walk in and quietly scout around for 20 mins and move on . but wapiti gave me advice to set up and sit on them for a few hous . i'll try this out in the next few days . knowing my luck i'll nod off to sleep and wake up with a boar eating my toes

I agree 2 from 35 is super embarrassing but surely I get 10/10 for being honest ……I’m at Gundy When I drove out I pulled up at Inglewood to camp ( I know someone that lets me crash there whenever I’m on the road ) when I got out of my Ute the cold hit me like a freight train. I’m in a donga now. Shorts tracky pants t shirt skivvy jumper and down jacket and doona and only just warm nuff at night. Highly recommend take plenty warm gear on your trip. Regarding loading pics there’s a free app called COMPRESS

APPS !?! techinically, i'm a neo-luddite i just don't get it , i shun a lot of this modern technology and try to stay "off grid" i pay my bills in person at the post office , do bank transfers in person at the bank . you'd be surprised the number of people i've met who've had their bank accounts hacked . but i can rebuild a early holden kingswood with a handful of rusty spanners and a set of vice grips
as for the cold , i'm of scottish decent . so long as i've got my hard yakka bamboo socks and a thick beenie i'm good . coldest place i've ever been was mount Makenzie out behind tenterfeild in august . minus 6 according to the temp gauge on my toyota dash . the wind chill made it even colder .not surprisingly that area was heavily settled by scots
saw a pig and shot it ,and it shattered cause it was frozen solid it was a pig-cicle

I have had those days where you think you must be firing blanks. It happens. But occasionally you get to look like a crack shot too.

Many years ago, I had a week away with my dad and two mates. We had a Suzuki Stockman as our transport around the tracks, and as I had enjoyed a good week I appointed myself as designated driver. We flushed a medium sized big out near the Suzi and the other 3 blokes jumped out while I sat in the drivers seat. The stood in a row and let rip at it. After about 100m, there was still not a mark on it. I got out of the 4wd, got my .243 out the rack and walked over to where they were. I then dispatched it with one shot at about 150m.

I was pretty happy, but they were not!

my favourite allrounder and "truck gun" is my 308 stainless tikka in a B&C stock . 2-7 loopy scope , 5 round mag in the gun, spare 5 round mag in my top pocket . light , points great, efficient . sits on top of my dash real good too for quick use . but i've had a hankering for a 44mag lever . mickB has been a terrible influence on me

Yes , I really like my Bushpig. No problems so far. As Wapity said earlier , if Wedgetail brought out their pumps with a push button like the Bushpig they would be a winner. I cant wait that long so bought a pump.

Rich , my brain is slow. This happens to me on holidays. I struggle to remember the results. I did get 4 foxes last night and a smallish boar. The foxes appear to be very big. I notice their weight when carrying them. Probably got a huge stomach full of dead pig that I have shot. Roughly6-7 yrs ago I used to shoot a block probably 10-15 k from here. 95 per cent of the foxes were really mangey poor condition… not here. Fat full bushy tails. Nearly every fox has been shot on or near a bait. I’m not surprised that mick b has influenced you in regards to a 44 lever. I bought one as well mick has done a stack of load development and projectile testing , has a ton of info.

I think that will work fine.
They were racing around in side by sides.
No stopping. That why they got big numbers.
Some sounders were 30 thick.

I'm looking at the tikka blackout in 308 atm.
It's a 16inch barrel, carbon stock, weights about as much as my VX5HD.
I really want it, but my finances can't afford it atm.

Mick is a wealth of information that’s for sure. I nailed a sow about 70kg 20 minutes into a drive out to the paddocks this afternoon. Going to check where a heap of roo carcasses have been dumped early tomorrow morning. It’s bloody dry here , creeks and dams I’ve never seen dry are . But I know of 2 dams on this property that are spring fed. Water level never goes down. I’ve got myself a nice comfy fold out chair, think I’ll sit on them for a few hours tomorrow morning

Another forum member recommended a particular chair. It’s a darche revolver. Great for sitting on dams because u can spin 360 degrees in it. Folds up compact. Well done with the sow. I shot a couple more foxes tonight. Back at camp for a twenty min rest break. Took the quad earlier. B on the scooter next. It’s dry out here too. Quite a few places I hear about same thing.
