Post by Andrew1au » 24 Jul 2018, 8:40 pm

Hi all Fist time poster.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place for me to hunt in North West QLD.
Hoping to stay within 500ks of Mount Isa.
Looking to hunt any pest. I have no dogs or quadbike. Just rifles.

Thanks.

Ya might have to get in touch with the landowners in the area ya looking at.
In qld we can't hunt with firearms anywhere but private property. :drinks:

Google Earth is your friend. When I am looking for new areas to shoot, I use Google Earth to identify the terrain I think will hold the animals I am chasing eg creeks, gully’s,hills, open country, forest country etc. Then I go knock on doors and ask. Be polite, show respect and present yourself well. It’s surprising how the old time farmers still respond favourably to that.

Thanks all. Where I live is quite remote. Not sure where to fi d any homesteads. I might have to ask around locally a bit more. I just thought I would give this a shot.

Southwest Shooter, is that a genuine offer, because I can supply the beers.

If you live in a remote area then you are probably already in a better position than 90% of us who live in the burbs, take everyone’s suggestions on board put yourself out there and you’ll have somewhere to hunt in no time.
Once you get on be sure to follow the rules and respect the owners property and you’ll be set for years. Good luck.

The border isn't that far from the Isa. Maybe see about a permit to hunt on vacant crown land over in the NT. :unknown: :drinks:

What will I need?

I have rifles, ammo, camping gear and a 4x4 wagon. I won’t be taking any kills with me. Mostly looking to just help someone out with pest control and have a good time. I won’t leave any rubbish on the property and I won’t shoot anything that’s not previously agreed upon. Would appreciate if the the grazier or a stationhand could show me the best spots, but if they are busy, i can find my own way. Cheers
