Nope.

Only allowed to shoot pistols at the range. Nowhere else.

Nope.

A lot of people are keen on the idea of a side arm for finishing game at close range, but it's not going to happen here in the foreseeable future.

In Aus, we're not trusted to use them without range supervision

There is a pistol permit for hunting in NSW,it is only available to property owners who are disabled and unfit to fire a long arm, you need a doctor and medical evidence to prove you are unfit to shoot a long arm.

If you have one of these pistol permits then you cannot have a long arm.

You can't have it as an additional sidearm while hunting though which was kind of the question...

I bet the hoops you have to jump through to get one of those permits aren't easy...

Baronvonrort,

Didn't know about the disability pistol thing, cool.

As your 'average shooter' though my points still right. No rights like the US to carry/shoot outside of the range just because you want to.

I think farmers, professional shooters,Vets and NPWS should be allowed to use pistols and silencers, they put down animals at close range, perhaps this is where we should start, we cannot change our idiotic laws instantly we have to break them down a little bit at a time.

We wish we could carry a side arm while hunting wrenchman... If I could it would be a humble little .22 6 shot revolver... even a single shot .22 pistol would be handy at times.

It's what I started with. It's a good choice if you want a gun to survive with .22

Gotta say I've got a bit of a soft spot for that grey cerakote.

I know a lot don't like it, but I reckon it's pretty smart.

+1.

A sidearm for hunting is perfectly reasonably IMO.

Nothing fancy, just a single shot in a sensible calibre would do fine.

Yeah same here..... I did it to prevent rust, it saves a lot of worring about the finish.

Going to coat the 12 gauge next.

What's the maintenance process for cerakote?

Just a wipe down is it? Easier than maintaining blued steel obviously?

Thats it, just a quick wipe over if you feel it needs it.

I have seen claims that when done properly inside and out, Cerakote acts like a dry lube and no oil ir required what so ever. I recon I read that in a Australian Shooters mag article quite some time back and the bloke doing the review noted how the action squeeked loudly when the bolt was lifted and droppped.

Personally im happy to oil and grease my moving parts.

Hanging out to take a deer with this gear! CVA Hawken in .54cal loaded with a quite light load of 55gn FFF black powder for competition target work and 95gn for hunting work with a 225gn patched round ball. It'll put 5 shots in 1.25 inches at 50m off a bench. :D

This is one of the tools I'm using at the moment to roll foxes. These 2 were poked at just over 270m.

Cheers mate, more Ass than Class I reckon, the other one was nailed in the neck, just behind the ears (bit hard to see going by the pic) close but no cigar! not easy shooting those little buggers of the bipod using a 3-9 - but its a good challenge, bunnies are good fun to trying to shoot them in the head, especially the way I wobble around! :D

204 mate - the rifle is a HB Howa with a Boyds Prairie Hunter Stock - it used to be Zook60's until he sold it to me. ;)

Poked this one right in the nose a while back, stuck its head through some thistles, which was a bad mistake on its part!
