Which colour camouflage clothing

G'day,

I'd like some opinions on what colour camouflage clothing you guys find works.

I'm looking at a Stoney Creek catalogue as we speak - Blue shirts, orange shirts, pinks ones.

Blue hats, orange hunting packs, bright green gloves...

"Regular" camo pattern stuff to of course.

What do you guys use for hunting what?

In my 'neck of the woods' mostly green, and some blues.
Personally I do not bother - I just avoid clothing that gives off a 'shine' when hit by sunlight.
I have yet to be convinced that my 'cammo buddies' have an advantage on me in the veld (doing the walk and stalk thing) when hunting antelope and the like ;) .
I usually wear my 'town clothes' in the bush.....being a pair of jeans and khaki shirt.
However - different story with baboon hunting/culling though - these guys really see colour and are extremely sharp
Just my opinion here, people. I hunt often with great success, but I would like to hear the thoughts of other forum members on this issue.
Just going to get my cup of coffee now...... ;)

Hope I am not hijacking this post in some way

Camouflage varies with the environment your hunting in.

I dunno if it's the case for other animals too, but if I remember right for deer they see using a reasonably narrow band of colour near the UV range?

I don't think the colour actually matters, it's more important about the pattern so you blend into the surroundings instead of being a solid shirt-shaped block against a background of leaves and trees.

It doesn't matter what you ware it's your movement & scent that give you away. Do I sometimes put on a camo jacket or shirt, yes but that would be the extent of it. It's just easier to wear something you don't give a rats ass about.

Auscam, washed in fresh water with no washing powder so it dosen't get a fluroesent glow .

Definitely dont use a modern washing powder, the "brighteners", highlight UV colurs, which Deer can pick up. Use an old school, or "natural washing powder or detergent.

Auscams can be good, but the colour mix has been through about 8 changes so far, so terrain matching still counts. I have taken a liking for the Cye "Multi Cam". i only use cams for Deer. Just khaki, greys greens for the Piggies!

Scent, UV & movement seem to be most important. I usually wear a cammo jacket only, in a perfect world it should be a reasonable match to the local bush but doubt if it's crittical. l ways wear an orange hat with a splash of black for safety reasons

Thanks for the replies all, and for the links provided.

I have some old camo gear that I've been washing with the regular wash which is probably not doing it any good. UV and all that...

I should pick up a new outfit this week some time and will wash it in water only.

Camo suit and colour hat sounds good.

Hi Crush,

Most of the game we tend to hunt can't see us and are colour blind, so it doesn't really matter. More what you feel comfortable in.

I wear for work and hunting the same brand, Tru-Spec or 511 from Le Gear.

I sometimes wonder what about the colour blind thing.

Not saying it's not true, I just imagine a deer looking at someone in a pink camo shirt wondering "what is this turkey doing, another idiot who thinks I can't see him"
