SE... Springvale area.

No hunting down here so I've gotta head up your way ;)

Haven't been to Wombat in ages. Waiting for this weather to warm up. Getting there though.... Well overdue for a trip.

Planning to get out there with 1sikxt and another mate.

Yep, goats a plenty yrs ago. Stating the obvious perhaps but check that the area you go to is OK to hunt. Some areas were closed to hunting a few yrs ago.

Hey fellas. I'm not sure if you're still planning on going out to wombat state forest but if you are I would love to tag along and meet some like minded people.

I love getting out in the bush but it's hard to find someone to go with me. Haha.

Geez,
I musta been really tired last night.
I clicked on this post to check it out, but read it like a spoonerism.
At first I thought it said "Hunting Wombat in the State Forest"

Don't know why all you blokes just don't go to N/E Vic where I live. Millions of hectares available to hunt in, deer, dogs, fox, rabbit. Those areas close to Melbourne must be pretty shot out. It's only a 4 hour drive to N/E Vic.

Thats Lerderberg State Park, Wombat state forest is up the road a bit, You need to be very careful where you are when you have your rifle with you..and ammo.

State PARKS are similar in status and restriction to National PARKS, with a few exception where you can hunt in these area.

Be careful.
http://www.gma.vic.gov.au/hunting/deer/where-to-hunt#wilderness

be aware of "recognised deer habitat" where extra restrictions apply and are policed.... these go by municipality, which Macedon is not by the way...

All State forest is open to pest/game hunting with various considerations including minimum distance from roads, track and waterways plus the overlooked exclusion zones where you can be 'evicted' by authorised officers, forestry and police...

Adding to that for Bood, read the links provided by key point is we can shooting State Forest, not State Park.

Make sure you don't get that one wrong.

I've been out once since.

There is sign everyone. Found a couple of deep hoof prints and regular droppings.

Didn't lay eyes on an animal on the 2 days though, just what they left behind.

Heard a large something crashing around that night but couldn't see 10m in front if you at that time.

Still don't know why you blokes in Melbourne don't just drive for 4 or so hours. You can see Sambar deer grazing on my local golf course in Mt Beauty at night.

Then you only have to find them during the day, thats just part of the fun. Wait until the weather cools down., when there is snow in the mountains

4 hours is a fair way if you need to get time off work and family commitments. If you are only say 1 hour drive away from a good sized state forest it starts to look attractive. At least you get out and about even if it's just a day out or over night. and Mt Beauty is more like a 5 hr drive for me, that's a lot less hunting time.

My brother and I (both licenced) are looking at a Vic state forest hunting trip once it cools down a little so this thread caught my eye. We are on NSW south coast but have an uncle at Wodonga that regularly camps NE Vic (around Mitta Mitta etc) who said he will drop us in n pick us up the following day. We will obviously only be shooting ferals and maybe a deer on the second day if we get lucky while the sun is up but is there anything else I need to know about Vic laws in state forest? Where can I go to read up? Thanks in advance guys.
