I've got this week off work  so I'll be picking a day to go for a wander in there again. Hopefully see more than wallabies this time.
Will let you know how I go.

Try areas near farms and areas well away from everything. ( isolated )

Need to go to a different forest. There never seems to be anything in Wombat.
I'm going to try up near Heathcote in the next week or 2

Heathcote, birds, wallaby, there are goats but they run from Graytown to Rushworth, just check you maps to if your going in from Costerfield as one of the roads has state forest on one side and Nat park on the other

All the years I have been going to Wombat 4wdriving and exploring mines, haven't seen much. Seen a few foxes, hit a few deer ( bullbar ) bugger all rabbits. There have been reports of pigs but yet to see them or signs of them.

What sort of deer? I have never seen deer sign.

I have shot a few goats there but must be 20 or more yrs ago, down the south end. Have seen pig sign but only on 3 or 4 occasions, never seen one.

Where is everyone going when they get in there and from which road do they enter? Went for a little wonder in today to find many wallabies and a few kangaroos and a fox when I head back home. I think I was on firth road if I remember correctly and just went down a few tracks

Both times I have hit deer was on the Blackwood / Greendale Rd, first one about 1k from Greendale and the other about half way between the towns both at night. Both were small so would has a guess they were hog deer.
Interesting to know were you have seen pig signs.

I have been told on a few occasions of wild dogs in the area. A friend from work who is also a shooter was camping with his 5yo daughter at Firth Park. He said they just got to sleep when he heard what sounded like a kangaroo bounding through the camp. Then just as he turned the light on in the tent there was was something pressing against the tent above his daughter's face. Which then gave it 5 knuckles and its reply was a yelp.

We had someone walk through our dead end camp in the middle of nowhere in wombat state forest one night.
Didn't have firearms yet either

Have heard some weird stories from other campers of strange blokes in the middle of the night.
