Hunting hammock

Post by becks » 04 Mar 2014, 1:42 pm

Hi guys,

I saw this ages ago and it only popped into my head now. Hopefully someone knows the thing I'm talking about.

I saw an advertisement somewhere for a "Hunting hammock" which was a hammock (duh ) but had a lot of built-ins to suit hunters.

Had a long pocket inside to put your rifle in which hung below so it's with you, but your not actually holding the thing. Don't have to sleep with the hard uncomfortable rifle with you, it's just hanging zipped up below.

It had other pockets too for whatever, basically to keep all the pointy/explodey bits close to you. Instead of in a bag on the floor or whatever while you're asleep. The rifle pocket was the bit that caught me though.

Anyone know the thing I'm talking about by any chance? :?

I have a Warbonnet Outdoors hammock with an integral fly net. Very good bit of kit and it has a foot box so you can lie a bit flatter than usual in a hammock.

Something to keep in mind with hammocks if you are camping in colder areas, especially at night - your body weight greatly reduces the insulation of your sleeping bag against the bottom of the hammock. Cold air is free to circulate underneath you and there's not much to insulate your body from those colder temperatures. You can get around this by sleeping on top of a ccf mat (like a cheapo foam bed roll from aussie disposals) but it can be a bit of a nightmare keeping that thing under you all night.

If you are serious with the hammock and want to take it with you where it will get down below 10C look into buying a down underquilt that clips onto the under side of the hammock. Toastie warm, even down well below 0C.

These guys specialise in down blankets just for hammocks!
