Deer - Wombat State Forest - Ballarat surrounding areas

Post by LBH » 03 Jun 2020, 10:24 am

Hi everyone,

I have recently moved to Ballarat and am looking for areas to spot stalk deer. I have had success finding deer at night (Driving home) around the wombat state forest (Spargo Creek area - driving not shooting) however, I have had no luck throughout the mornings/evenings. If anyone has any tips of hints regarding areas such as Wombat state forest or any others areas that are worth a look.
Cheers

Yep, they are there. But Gippsland is the go.

I assume you have a GMA deer licence.

Best guess was a red doe. (Driving at night time so didnt get the best look at it. I know red and fallow are throughout the area, however, I couldnt se any markings to signify fallow)

LBH in my experience I’ve had more success in between Blackwood and greendale. Wombat state forest is tough going, there are deer, but they are very far spread! Definitely upvotes to Gippsland. Expect to put in the time if you want success in the Wombat State.
