Duck hunting and humane shooting

Post by sha » 17 Mar 2014, 9:31 am

Hi,

This is an area I'm pretty ignorant on as I'm not a duck hunter.

On the subject of humane hunting, as an example of you put a bullet through the brain of a deer he's obviously out in a flash and that's the end of it.

What is the expectation with birds and shotguns? Is there an equivalent of sorts for "shot placement" or any factors which make it "better shooting" from that point of view.

Total newb to this kind of shooting/hunting...

There is a variety of shot available for difference game and difference distances.

Using them as intended they have plenty of punch for instant kills.

Or they can be used beyond their limits like anything else with undesirable results.

It doesn't take much to drop them.

Hollow bones, only a thin layer of flesh between the skin and the vitals, etc.

A duck isn't a boar :P

I did manage to work that much out myself

Don't really know what to expect from shot over distances is my problem I guess.

Seconds point about using them at intended distances is obviously the key.
