Hunting in VIC state forests

Post by benny » 24 Mar 2014, 11:54 am

Hey all,

I had a read through and couldn't find any related topics so sorry if this is a double up.

What is the deal with hunting in state forests in Victoria? I am from SA so we obviously cant here, but have a read a few things elsewhere that seems you can in VIC.

Do you have to gets permits? and could you get them as a south Australian resident?

Also where are the forest you hunt in?

Thank in advance.

Yes you can definitely hunt in State Forests in Victoria.

See here for information on hunting in Victoria: Where can I hunt in Victoria - DEPI website

No permits are required for hunting pests, but you need a game license for hunting deer.

Not sure about getting one if you're an SA resident? Best to give VIC Department of Environment & Primary Industries a call and ask about that one - 136 186
See you on the firing line.

The type of game license you need (if at all) also depends on what/how you are hunting.

There are licenses for Deer stalking, stalking with hounds, game birds etc.

Information on game licenses here.

VIC has forests suitable for hunting in all directions mate.

Where will you be? Only along the SA border? Or do you come to the north and east areas as well?

Thanks guys

-Granting, I live in Adelaide and I would head over there just for the sake of going hunting/camping/4wding so the closer to the SA border the better! but I don't mind travel too much and quite often head to Mt Gamier to see family anyway.

I have heard of Cobboboonee National Park, does anyone know if that is reasonable? at this stage I would just look at hunting the ferals until I work out whether I can get a game license or not.

Dunno about Cobboboonee,

The Grampians is a popular hunting spot for deer and more. Deer hunting info on it here.

Haven't been myself, but something to look into.

Plenty of guys getting game there ;)
