Neck Shots

On the Roo Culling thread it mentioned someone not liking neck shots.
When I was a Kiwi many years ago we used neck shots a lot on deer with great success, but not having shot a roo I wondered why neck shots are not recommended.
I welcome being educated on this.

Neck shots for deer. Yes. Why waste any meat.
No idea why somebody would not do the same for 'roos. Maybe they're not to proficient with their shooting skill?

The National Code of Practice for taking roos requires a head shot. Actually, it's a brain shot.

Neck shooting certainly works well on most animals.

Because roos can only be taken legally with brain shots...

When I first started commercial culling the carcasses went for human consumption and the heads were still on so the vet could check they were head shot.Pet food carcasses have the head removed

Vets have never checked roos as a matter of routine inspection. Human consumption meat is checked by a accredited meat inspector. He/she doesn't need to be a vet. I had multiple State and Federal vets, stock inspectors and quarantine (State and Federal) under my program and it was only when a particular disease was an issue with an imposing country that this issue arose. The Russian fiasco with roo meat was an example as had many where a country has claimed we have had diseases in sheep, cattle roos that haven't existed.

My last 500 roos went to a processor with heads on and they were for pet meat.

Wouldn't the head go in the mincer as well?

Did the King River vet check carcasses for diseases for the export market rather than merely checking for head shots?
