Hey mate,

Two bits of info hopefully usefull for you.

Where can I hunt?

There are a few places more than just state forest (with a few conditions).

DEPI Forest Explorer maps are useful too.

What are you hunting for mate?

Different game will be in different types of areas.

If you can stretch a little travel out too, you're about 1h20m from Mount Beauty.

TOP country out there. A few deer hunters favourite place to be, if that's your thing.

Will depend like Vati said though.

Deer, pigs, goats, dogs, foxes, rabbits... What are you looking for?

I'm not real familiar with NE Vic, but one bit of advice I will give.

When I started out I went to a lot of places just because they were close. Spent the minimum time possible just to get somewhere where I was allowed to shoot really.

Problem with it being close is it's busy and everything's kept away, scared off. I wasted a fair bit of time doing it.

IMO much better practice to go further to someone less travelled with more chance of game.

Better for hunting, usually nicer places to be too.

Looking at the maps you're gunna need to go a bit further than 45 minutes mate.

There are some good spots not too far from you though. 2 hours and that kind of distance.

SE of you the state forests around Bright are known for deer.

Past Bright is Mount Beauty. Same as above...

South again, the various forests around Mansfield.

Check the dates because it's only allowed at certain times but there is a Sambar reserve east of lake Eildon during certain periods.

Not really day trip material, but if you're happy to camp a weekend they're nice places with game.
