Your depressed? Imagine if bowhunting was your life's passion like it is for me.
I would honestly want to abandon this country if it became illegal here. Trouble being where do you move to? NZ would be my first choice but they won't even let unvaxxed like me in.

Yet it's perfectly fine to cut the throat of a native fish in a public area. Go figure.

Well, that's pretty sad for all the bow hunters out there. Bastards just keep chipping away.

What about spears?

Its not about them being dangerous to people, they've used the excuse that they're not humane for hunting animals.

Cross bows are prohibited in Vic. But if you join a club you can get them.

I think they're prohibited in all states, but you can get licenced for them in most states.
Victoria is one of the few that still allows hunting with them though.

As far as I'm aware they're not prohibited in Victoria but then rules may have changed.
Here in SA they'll be thrown in with normal bows.
Ridiculous, the stigma attached to crossbows is. Theyre bulky, heavy, loud, slow to load, and in the grand scheme of things often not that much more powerful than a good compound bow. The only thing they have going for them is the fact you don't have to draw back to shoot and they're a bit more accurate in most people's hands.

Prohibited here, need a CatM licence.
I think the issue is the same as crossbows, some politician saw a movie where it was used to silently kill people, crapped his dacks and made up a law.

Crossbows are prohibited weapons in NSW since some school kid shot a teenager in the leg with one. Even if you could get a permit for one (outside of museums I can't think of any reason why you'd get one), the storage requirements for a prohibited weapon are very strict. Both the safe and the building need an off-site monitored alarm, the weapon must be inside a safe and secured individually to the inside of the safe, and must be fitted with a trigger or barrel lock - these are the same weather the weapon is a crossbow or a machine gun.

Victoria lets you own a crossbow if you are a member of an archery club and some archery suppliers in Vic carry and sell them. The Vic hunting regs have an exception which will let you hunt with a crossbow IF you can't use a normal bow (eg because of a disability).

When I was a kid in Victoria you could buy a crossbow from the local sports shop for $80 (mind you, back then you could also buy a .22 or a shotgun and ammo in Kmart).

The last time I used a crossbow it was dark and I didn't notice my thumb was sticking up in the strings path.
Anyhow it almost took the top of my thumb off about half way along the thumbnail.
I didn't even cry

Crossbows are cool but they suck in many ways, they definitely shouldn't be restricted so heavily though, it's a joke.

I carry a cigarette lighter to assist with monitoring wind direction. One time , stalking a cat I temporarily stuck the cigarette lighter in my mouth to free up both hands so I could load an arrow and draw my compound bow. When I hit the trigger on my release aid I had forgotten about the lighter in my mouth . So both my arrow and my lighter flew through the air towards the cat . This method not conducive to good accuracy
