Spotlighting- Deer

Hi All,

Just wanted to get some advice on the best techniques to spotlight deer,

-Is it best to walk or spotlight from a vehicle?
-Use a red light filter?
-Use a call?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

To clarify this will be on private land in VIC so completely above board. Helping an old boy get rid of some pests

Which is the very reason why spotlighting Deer is/used to be banned.
I'm not up to date on what the current legislations are in the various states/territories though.
Praps those that are can add the relevant information. :unknown:

We spotlight sambar deer here one thing we have noticed once you take 2 or 3 out of the mob on 1 place they get a bit toey that's when we leave the vehicle about a kilometre away walk in and shoot 2 or 3 go back get the vehicle and then Cart out the meat.

There eyes light up like nobody's business. I think walking is more suitable on the deer.

I think where it’s a pest situation, eg they can make a real mess of apple trees in an orchard and as such take them out by whatever means

And that applies whether shooting sambar, foxes or kangaroos.
