Gday All. I have recently moved to the north coast of NSW....(not sure if it's permanent at this stage). Port Macquarie to be precise. Has anyone hunted around this area at all. I know there are Deer around here. There is a couple of State forests in the vicinity. I'm used to hunting sth coast and close to Vic. Don't need spots just some general info or a start point. Burrawan is closed due to flooding apparently. It's the only area I have been focusing on thus far. Any tid bits would be appreciated. Cheers.

Mate no sure if there are many hunters here on this site to help you.
Hopefully you can get a bit more info than I can give, but I hired a team of blokes that hunted that area around there a bit. I believe they were after rusa and chital. When we moved to the project at HMAS Albatross and put them up in Nowra, they spoke of an area near Wollongong as well.
I do believe that they knew of some state forest land hunting that gave results. Good luck with working it out mate.

Hey Markg plenty of deer around Port Macquarie and south, spend a saturday nite drinking with a few of the boys at the Buladelah hotel will get you onto some prime Beef country. I use to go to Buladelah every year to compete in the hill climb and wasn't surprised by the generosity of the locals. :drinks:

Thank you very much for that. I actually pulled off the highway near Buladelah to grab a coffee at some tiny out of the way servo. Was good coffee too. Lot of country in this neck of the woods is very thick and damp. Pretty to look at though. I'm heading to the local range tomorrow and might bump into some locals. There is supposed to be a local hunting club too.

TBH if Buladelah wasn't so faraway compared to some of my local pig and deer patches I would definitely hit up, big summer storms and humid condition mean abundant green feed most of the year, they have a real big deer problem, the local range is always a good way to start up a conversation

Those well known state forests are very productive, but they are also going to be very thick as well as heavily hunted on weekends.
A lot of Queenslanders travel down as the far northern forests don't sound as good from what I hear.

Sadly, the big Rusa numbers are like down at the gong.
They are there because hunters can't hunt and lots of land would be owned by ex-city dwellers who are not like rural people and known for no common sense, then it's chopper bombing time.
