Not much of that sort of thing down here. Most of our ground birds can't fly! Reminds me of an old poem.
THE EMU.
cannot fly.
cannot sing.
Might as well shoot.
The f****g thing.
Now that's been said, who's coming for a shot?

upland... like land birds....
Quail, those pesky little buggers fun to shoot.and tasty..
We have Pheasants, limited though

There are dove and pigeons that are not protected but they prefer the the cities and suburbs and shooties in the burbs are kind of frowned upon.

We have Snipe, at least according to my old ammo packages :D , but they 'gained' ptoection some time ago.

Can you guys hunt emu?

That would be cool. So I guess if you said it tasted like chicken that would be a big chicken.

Man that would be cool how big would the roaster have to be to bake that bird.

Not allowed to hunt emu here (not allowed to hunt any native animals).

Only introduced animals and declared pests are to be hunted here.

Deer, pig, goat, fox, rabbit, wild dogs, feral cats, kangaroos in pest control situations. I think that's everything?

That's what I meant by "in pest control situations", e.g. kangaroos.

Didn't know Emu were a pest for anyone though?

Or can you get a permit to hunt for meat?

I am deeply apologetic about the emu joke and my suggestion that it should be shot. Disgraceful behavior I admit. Must be my western NSW background coming out. he he..

On a more serious note...Westy, you forgot about the feather cloud when they first hit the bull bar.

.......and, for all those abroad and elsewhere the Emu is on our National Coat of Arms, is a protected animal, no you cannot shoot it, however, an occupier of lands may be able to get a permit to harm emu if there is a case and evidence of;
Damage to crops,
Competition for pasture and/or water points,
Damage to property e.g. fence, infrastructure,
Causing erosion,
Hazard to aircraft or vehicles (aircraft????),
Disease or human health management,
Aggressive animal threatening human safety....look out!!! those buggers can really give you a nasty peck....
Now that's been said, who's coming for a shot?

Mauser,

Can tell you that pissed off emu is not a pleasant creature and with his toenails is not pretty savage on your flesh if "got".

Everyone seemed to forget the good old galah. Great shooting, unprotected in western NSW but crap to eat.

Remember put in boiling water with a house brick. When the brick is soft throw out the galah and eat the brick.
