Premium hunting projectiles

Hi all,

Do you think the premium hunting projectiles like Accubond at $1.50 a piece are worth it? (That's per bullet only)

What do they do that a good old soft point doesn't do?

Comparing Accubond specifically to a standard soft-point, the difference is weight retention.

The Accubond has a bonded jacket and core to hold it together. If you shot same target with an equal weight Accubond and regular soft point like a Sierra Game King etc. then weighed the remains of projectiles afterwards, you'd find the Accubond would have held together more to be more effective.

So that's the benefit on paper. How much it matters in practice though, meh?

How many deer have been taking with regular softpoints after all. More than you can count.

All premium bullets will have some feature or another that's probably equally comparable to that.

There isn't much game in Australia where you need something like an Accubond. I'm not knocking the bullets, they're just overkill for most stuff here.

A .308 or .30-06 with a 180gr soft point will take down any of the largest deer. And be overkill for the majority of them.

The only thing bigger will be hunting in Central Aus or up north for Camel of Buffalo, then you'd probably start looking at "special" bullets and larger calibres.

I suppose you could say though it gives you a bit more punch out of a smaller calibre?

I'm not saying it'll turn a .243 into a .308, but the better weight will give it some more damage right?

If you had a smaller calibre it would let you go up a notch in game size with top bullets?

I was talking about this the other day, and there is a ****** to be said for good advertising over a good product.

We were actually talking about Vodka on the night. The few of us there all though Absolut Vodka was pretty ordinary, and not particularly cheap either.

They do damn good good packaging and advertising though, as everyone knows and drinks their stuff.

The advertising guys earned their commission there.

Nothing's going to know the difference between a bonded jacket and a regular softpoint hitting it in the noodle at 2500fps.

well with correct shot placement and a 180gr bullet it will most likely annoy it enough that it would chase your boat onto the beach, stranding itself in the process ;)

just be sure that its not in a marine park as that would be poaching and of course that it is in season,,   oh one last thing ,,your not allowed to use a feed station,,its not sporting
