Can someone tell me if there's some logic behind the digital camo pattern?

I think that's what it's called anyway, the one made of a grid of squares filled in with colour.

Is it supposed to do something against the eye that normal random camo doesn't do?

It's just another way to break up someone's profile, like all camo. The US uses digital camo in their uniforms I believe.

It's more or less just a way to make camo patterns look more modern I can't see it having an massive advantage against regular camo of the colours are the same

What I don't get is the universal camo the yanks wear that's all grey. I can defintaly see applications where it would be useful but it's a far stretch to call it universal when you stick out like dogs balls on a cat against a green backdrop.

Digital camo works better in urban environments where straight lines, sharp edges and 90deg corners rule. At least I believe that's the logic. Put some 70's era forest multi cam against a concrete staircase and it'll stand out like the proverbial.

Horses for courses.

Apparently it's more effective at different ranges as it provides multiple patterns based on distance/visible details.

Digital camouflage is a type of camouflage pattern combining micro- and macro patterns, often though not necessarily with a pixellated look created with computer assistance. The function is to provide military camouflage over a range of distances, or equivalently over a range of scales, in the manner of fractals. Not all multiscale patterns are pixellated, and not all pixellated patterns work at different scales, so being pixelated does not of itself guarantee improved performance.

I dunno.

Seems like a firing tank would be pretty easy to spot regardless of what it's wearing?

Just needs to be hidden until it starts firing I suppose.

Whoever is looking for you probably doesn't often get a second chance once it starts firing?

Off topic but I doubt anyone in a tank gives a s**t about camo

Just if they have enough artillery to blast their way through anything :D

I must admit it assumed it was done like that for a modern/cool factor.
