Pluck a duck

Tell me foul hunters, when you catch a bird is plucking them down to just pulling feathers one by one?

I'm sure they have a clever way if you're doing big numbers with machines but what's the smalltime hunter method?

Off topic as you won't have access to one but...

I saw an episode of Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe where they visited a poultry processing place. Hunters bring in their birds and they pluck 'em.

They had like rubber roller spinning and high speed and worked the bird across it like wood on a sander. Plucked 'em quick smart. Only took 10 seconds or something for one of the pros to do it.

Just interesting.

I was 9 years old and it was the first duck I shot so I had to eat it cause it landed in the dam. I was forced to strip off and swim out to fetch it, but being 9 and impatient I couldn't be assed plucking it properly. My Aunty sliced it up and cooked it in her old wood fired oven, best duck I've ever tasted and I only had to spit out 2 pellets :)

Mechanised duck pluckers are awesome, but I have an aversion to the ones mounted to a wheel hub, the only real safety device is when the hunter finally stalls the car once he has been wrapped around the drum.

I cant believe that most of you guys have apparently not seen duck pluckers.

In the 60s and 70s they were an essential part of most shooting partys on Duck Opening mornings.
A party of 6 or 8 shooters could do the mornings shoot in no time.
Then divy em up, and into the eskies.

Most of em were on a collapsible tripod, and driven by a 12 volt motor with jumper leads to a ute battery.

The difference between Erotic and Kinky is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Erotic is using a feather.
Kinky is using the whole bird.

 :D

Dad taught me to pluck ducks in a brown paper sack, it reduces the number of feathers floating around. Dad also used a propane torch to singe the left over stubble.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

You place the dead duck down in the open sack/bag, reach down inside and pluck the bird, with your hands, while it is in the bag. Most of the feathers and the down stay in the bag.

Oh, that simple

I thought you mean rolling round round in the bag somehow and the threads of the sack catch and pluck the feathers somehow or something.

My bad.

Found a few good basic ones when I googled duck pluckerbut this one takes the cake for simplicity.

Some of the power drill ones I seen look nice and basic, just need to secure the drill well enough.
