Is anyone ACTUALLY sticking pigs

Game hunting and large prey. Deer stalking, hunting with hounds. Boar, pigs etc., large prey, culling, hunting large feral animals.

Is anyone ACTUALLY sticking pigs

Post by samf » 31 Dec 2014, 3:24 pm

Seems like pig stickers have had a bit of a rise lately, seeing a few ads about anyway.

Got me wondering... Is anyone actually sticking pigs with them?

What happened to the follow up shot?

Call me a wuss but the last thing that'd come to my mind when a wild boar, pissed off that you put a hole in it, is thrashing around would be to leap on it and finish it off with a knife.

Sounds like a good way to lose a hand or an eye?

Yes.

Many people hunt pigs without the use of firearms.

Cheers,

Pigs aren't the only thing that their sticking!!!! Bow hunters use them a lot of the time as a follow up arrow is a little hard!!!

My son in law is a teacher in North Queensland and he tells me that a lot of the kids up there do it, the dogs hold the pig and they stab it with a knife. Not my preferred method, and I'm a bit surprised the RSPCA haven' t got their knickers in a twist about it, but it's popular up there. Recently some Chine blokes were done for training their dogs on piglets.

I've hunted pigs using spears and knives ( no dogs ) near Katherine NT when I was a young lad,
We would go out in a group of 3 or 4 lads on foot and just litsen for them and home in on em. Its got me beat how none of us ever got torn to bits.

Yeah, fair enough.

For curiosity, does a follow up arrow while your standing over the thing not work?

Or not a good idea for some reason?

YouTube and you'll see.

I won't link any as they're pretty graphic. Personally it doesn't sit very well with me, not a clean death. I prefer a more humane shot with a rifle.

Not lecturing anyone and not going to have an argument over it, just an opinion.

I stick them every now and then because ammo isn't cheap and in all honesty it's good fun.
