Is hunting with 2 way radios unethical?

Post by FuzzyM » 20 Feb 2015, 7:23 pm

Came across this the other day:

http://www.gma.vic.gov.au/hunting/deer/ethical-hunting

"The improper and illegal use of vehicles, radiotracking collars and other electronic devices such as two-way radios is considered to be highly unethical and is inconsistent with the concept of 'fair chase'."

I was intending to get my game license at some point after I pick up my .303, I have a pair of UHF handhelds I was going to use when my mate and I go deer stalking. This would primarily be for safety, if we lose sight of each other in scrub.

What do you guys think? :unknown:

Use ever safety measure you legally can . The key is in the wording " improper and illegal use " . If using as a safety device it's not improper .

Yep, we use 2 way hand held walkie-talkies = only as a means of communicating though.

As Jack V says - "improper and illegal use"..

When you're hunting in thick scrub being able to maintain communication is essential for safety if nothing else. However nothing is worse than people chattering away on these things when you're trying stalk an animal. You can get voice activated boom mike and earpiece for most of these things so half way into an intricate stalk and you mate decides to tell you he's going bush potty, the target won't head off to the next postcode. .

Tracking collar? Where did they get that from? Are people getting close enough to deer in the wild to put a collar around it's neck then let it run, track it down again then shoot it?

As for the 2 way radio, to say staying in communication while with another hunter in the area is a bad thing is completely idiotic.

Sounds like someone watched too many movies with the tracking collar idea.
