Ruger seems to be proving that with their latest.

Very affordable rifles that shoot well enough.

I have a friend in the USA through aviation, he just so happens to be a big name in the gun game over there. Tom's words and experience shooting the Ruger American over 1000 yards (no kidding) along with a bunch of media folk seems to reinforce what old bloke wrote above.

I was so convinced I ordered one in .308 and a VX2 3-9x40 for it. I can't wait to pick it up!

No.
Everything except Fallow, Chital and Hog require a minimum is 6.85mm calibre/130grain proj. Previously we had a case minimum length of 2inch that has been removed as of a couple of yrs ago.... (Sambar,Red, Rusa...+?)

Not here mate, no.

Must be a minimum .270 calibre projectile weighing no less than 130gr. For Red, Rusa and Sambar.

Not the best system. There are smaller diameter, lighter bullet cartridges with enough extra velocity that do more damage but aren't legal :problem:

But that's what we've got here.

26 Nosler has some appeal for me.

For the reasons above though I wouldn't be getting one. Ridiculous it's not legal here for the 3 larger species.

There's no logic when it comes to guns in Aus.... taking the case length minimum away has allowed many more rifles to be used in Vic, like lever 44mags etc.... but also technically allows many other chamberings shouldnt even be considered like the many cadet rifles out there...

Scotland and UK generally, deer hunting requirements are base on a minimum energy level I believe ....

That would be a much better way to do it.

Find an average based on factory ammunition, add a little margin of error for good measure, would be far more effective.

Where are all the .280 Rem fans , 140g Accubond , 57g RL 19 for a bee,s dick over 3000 fps.
Recoil not as snappy as a .270 - Not as harsh as the 30-06 , Pleasure to shoot !
Will handle them all !

308
Versatile. Plenty of firearm options. Plenty of reloading options. Plenty of ammo.......VERY accurate.

Dont worry Mick, Its good to be different, the 280 is no doubt a very effective round....a very potent non-mag 7mm, more than the 7mm-08, 10% more capacity than the 7x57...

Its practically not recognised around here... it's more than the 270win...but not quite a 30-06Spr :unknown:

Just like the 8mmRemMag, its non acceptance by the masses, defied its effectiveness (8mm mauser round on speed with 25% or so more velocity) which was probably on account of its dirty metircised name.... which the seppos never liked (280Rem/7mmExp./280Rem)

Can't believe it was never more greatly accepted , Especially amongst reloader's with its case capacity and the range of 7mm projectiles (sometimes) available.

Remington accuracy is widely reported as a bit of a gamble these days.

Howa are cheap, and known for accuracy.

Remington ammo works just fine in .30-06 and .270.
Browning BL-22 lever action...open sights
T3 Varmint .204 Ruger...Meopta Meostar 4-16X44
T3 Lite .30-06 Sprg...Aimpoint Hunter 1X red dot

If you re-read you'll see Pyrosimo asked for an "opinion between Remington 700 and howa 1500" rifles.

I was talking about Remington rifles, not factory ammunition.
