Tikka T3 synthetic in any of 308, 270 or 30/06. Go the 308 if you don't reload.

All the others will be worth nothing once you shoot them. 2nd hand Tikkas are always easy to sell.

Spend as much on your scope and mounts as you do on the rifle. Don't overscope it a 2-7 or 3-9 is heaps.

I know this doesn't include a scope in the price but I think it's pretty good value for money. http://www.gunemporium.com.au/Howa-Spor ... luted.html

I picked up a Fluted 223 from there last week for $599.

That's a damn good price! Might have to go with a Howa after all :D

Nothing wrong with that price  From memory my 22.250 Varmint Barreled Action cost around the $500 mark about 4 or 5yrs ago now. And that sporter is a fluted barrel too

+1 just check the weight. I would have got one at that price but a bit heavy. Went for the marlin x7, fair bit lighter. So happy got 2. :)

So I went to put in an order at the LGS and the guy there showed me a Howa .30-06 Syn/Blued with a sporter barrel and a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope and I just had to go with it! It's a bit heavy but that will just help reduce recoil anyway, ended up at $950 total. I can't wait to have a shot with it! :)

Westy, u really need to learn when to count to 10 before u comment.
Your the one who looks childish, ill mannered and foolish after comments like that.

All calibers have their uses, pros and cons. Otherwise the manufacturers would not sell them. And they all have a few fans

So I went and got the rifle today and am very pleased, ended up getting a Weaver scope instead of a Bushnell because it was $100 cheaper and it works a treat! Sighted it in and got some very good 3 shot groups at 100m ( No pics sorry) and I can't wait to get out and shoot some dinner! :)
