Well the time has come, snow if forecast and it's getting cold. The perfect way to start the Sambar season. National Parks are now open for deer hunting and I want to go up into the high country...currently 2C at Mt Hotham...perfect. We figure head out on to the Dargo High Plains Rd and just see what happens before the road is closed because of snow. Got my .30-06 out of mothballs today. It's going to be gale force winds up high...just how I like it. If visibility is to poor up high then head back to my local area around Mt Beauty.

Thanks Chronos...it will a bit of a reconnoitre before winter really hits. No guarantees on the deer but it will be fun to get out and about. First cold days of the year.

We spent the long weekend in the back of Bright.
Also drove up and did Blue Rag. :D

Never really been up that way before and it was pretty nice.
Might have to go back sometime after I get my game licence.

We also had a night full of the howls of packs of wild dogs up the hill from camp
Really wished I had brought a rifle with me that night!

No shortage of things to hunt up here. Heaps of dogs, all ferals but very smart. Heaps of deer and they're really smart...generally only coming out at night...until this time of the year when they get a bit slack and then you just have to get into them. A Game Licence is about $50.00 a year...cheap as.

Good luck with it fella's - don't fancy being out in that weather hunting but she's warmer than here at the moment (sitting on -1deg, snowed earlier today and threatening to do it again tonight)

Make sure you take plenty of pics of everything! :D

Sounds like a plan blokes, sitting here in Northern SW in shorts and singlet I'm now feeling a bit chilly. Have to come down that way some time to chase Sambar. As for me next week I'm off to the Glen Innes area chasing Fallow a bit colder there, but no snow. Bloody Hell Scott, where are you in the snow.

Good stuff mate, guess there's a lot of country to cover but still a good time.

A few mates and I keep promising to get down that way for a hunt, probably not this year unfortunately

At least you got out into hills to check it all out! I'm envious. Miss it up that way, such nice country.Might have to make a mid winter trip over 'home' to fish for cod and wander the hills.

Better luck next time.

I drove up to the top of Blue Rag once, helluva view. It was only a few years after the big bush fires of 2003 and the snow gums still hadn't grown back.

Big FU post and gone, mods deleted it now.
