You need to look at the website:

You need a licence for deer in Vic State Forest or select National Parks:

Then you need to work out if the area you want to hunt is state forest or national park, I use Forest Explorer online:
http://nremap-sc.nre.vic.gov.au/MapShar ... stexplorer
if you want hard copy topo maps then I find Melbourne Map Centre a good place to purchase from.

Then you need to find a deer.

.243 with 85gr bullets (or larger) for chital, fallow and hog deer.

.270 with 130gr bullets (or larger) for red, rusa and sambar.

Game license required to hunt deer. Hunting seasons on some of the species, when are you coming?

That's it. Then just need an invitation to private property or choose a state forest.

I'm not familiar with the SA laws so can't compare but there isn't too much too it here in VIC.

Minimum calibre as above.

Hog season:
Opens 30 minutes before sunrise on 1 April
Closes 30 minutes after sunset on 30 April

Game permit.

That's it.

Good practices are the same here as anywhere.

No requirements for fluro gear like NSW but you'd be wise to wear something of course.

Be aware other hunts may be in the area so act accordingly and off you go

Aside from all the caliber restriction you have to wait until it cools if you want to hunts all day. Waste of time otherwise...very little action unless you get very lucky. It's still 25C around my place in north east Vic...way to warm. We've only had one decent cold snap since last year. I generally don't get out until Mt Bogong has snow on it. Give it another month or so.

i missed this years hog deer season, so will have a go next year. Anyone know what the rules are, and did anyone take any this past season?
