Nobody ever wants to help on locations. Here is a couple to get you started.
Eildon sate park, after Easter to about Nov only. Check on the dates to be sure.
And anywhere heading east or north east from there all the way to the boarder.,,,,,,,,,,,,, Enochs point , Howaqua, Howitt, Woods point etc. Just stay out of national parks as most are closed to hunting and don't f*&^@n spot light. Good luck, its hard work
And get a licence for deer. More info here: http://www.gma.vic.gov.au/

Thx for the help, i already have a GMA deer licence and gun licence (use thompson centre dimension in 30-06) and have been trying random location in the alpine area without much success. I guess finding a good spot is part of the sport :P

If your in the alpine areas the deer can be anywhere....but they don't like cold winds. Look for East facing slopes in the mornings as they are trying to get a nap in warmth. Remember they are nocturnal animals, don't normally kick around during the day. Excellent caliber choice by the way....hard hitting. Welcome to the nightmare of Sambar deer hunting.

And on an unrelated note: how do you like the dimension? I find it an interesting idea

I'll say straight off the bat to be fair that I haven't used one, but they look all over the place to me.

Half hunting feature, some leaning towards target, mashed into a tacticool rifle?

I could be one of those ergonomic deals when something looks weird but feels good once you're using it I guess.

For letting you assemble a semi-custom rifle of sorts though the price is pretty good though IMO.

Consider this, if you stalk along a ridge because you are seeking better visibility of a larger area then you will be visible to a larger area, noise and scent will also travel.
As I kid I was taught to stalk quickly and quietly into a gully, not too far in, and take my time working through it.
My #1 tip is to stalk slower, almost everyone moves too fast in the begining, its not a race, i forgot this a few weeks ago and spooked a stag about 300m off the track into the first gully, i was cold!
