I haven't been out much lately due to family reasons and had no results for the last 5 or 6 trips out. Not like me as I usually whistle in and shoot a fox every 2 or 3 trips.
But headed out late thisavo to a mates property just out of town. I set up my blind and gave the button whistle a go for about 15 minutes and no result. So out with the new scotch predator call. After about 5 minutes I could smell fox and the breeze had done a 180. Bugger! So figuring there is one behind me I didn't move hoping it would circle. But it was a no show. 10 minutes later it's getting close to dark and I'm thinking of heading in for a beer with my mate.

Lambs start running in every direction and sure enough about 1 minute later a fox appears over the crest. He was headed in my general direction. Using my rest I waited until he was about 70 meters out. As he paused to have a look around, bang flop with the 223. A nice dog.
I broke the drought at last. Just gotta get his Mrs now. They have accounted for a fair few lambs and kids over the last few months.

Good job OB...

That's just the kind of pic that the guys and gals that are looking for access to new hunting grounds, need to show the farmers when asking for access on their properties... That's exactly how I used to get access to a lot of new properties back in the day.. It should not be underestimated just how much of an impact, on the decision that either a bunch of dead foxes on the back of the Ute from the night before and or a bunch of photos of dead foxes that may have otherwise been eating their profits ! can make !!!!!!

Two old sayings were suddenly yanked out of my memory this morning,,,,,,,

1) The one that got away,

and

2) What you see when you haven't got a gun,

I was driving into town early this morning and watching out for roos that were heading home for the day, (or whatever they do)
Suddenly I saw movement off to the right coming out of the tall roadside grass.
It was a humungus boar, and he galloped across in front of me at great speed, and disappeared into the grass on my left.

I have no hesitation in saying it was the biggest boar I've ever seen in real life,
And odd colours, mottled grey, black, pink, and ginger.

I wished I'd had a dash cam,,, Damm it,,,, or a rifle.
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
I've come to realize that,,,,, the two most loving, loyal, and trustworthy females in my entire life were both canines.

Pigs on the road
Travelling west to work late one afternoon with a bloke who used to hitch a ride with me we came upon a situation where it looked like
someone had dropped a gallon of red paint on the road but what it was a semi trailer had cleaned up a mob of pigs crossing the road

Blood and guts everywhere and pig bits strewn for 30 to 40 mtrs along the road
We pulled up to have a look and off to the side of the road i could see movement in the dim light so old mate beside me said its just a
pig that wasn't killed in the accident so he bailed out grabbed my jack handle out of the back of the cruiser and headed of towards the movement
to put it out of its misery

Now this bloke was supposed to be a s**t hot pig hunter what pigs him and his mates hadn't caught were not worth catching
He spent all his spare time telling the crew how good they were at catching pigs
Anyway he got to within 2 mtrs of the movement and all hell broke out he screamed like a little girl then headed back towards the cruiser zigzaging and
swinging the iron he had in his hand then jumped up onto the bonnet of the cruiser
Then and only then i could see what all the commotion was about there was a huge ginger boar standing behind him i nearly pissed myself laughing
but old mate wasn't amused he said it could have eaten him but i asked why would he eat you when he has more than he can eat now, all i got was get f----d

After my laughing had stopped he told me that the boar was eating the dead pigs
This is why it chased him boars are very protective of their food especially in the dry season

Now what chance would you have of ever seeing this happen again (Crickey)
I know one bloke who hopes he never does and it isn't me.

Cheers

Got these two with one shot last week, using Diana 21 pellet buckshot out of the Adler, didn't even see the little fella, must have been hanging close to the boar when I took the shot, they were in thick tall grass and I had to stalk to within 8-10 metres or less before I could even get a visual to take the shot, the big fella let out an almighty squeal and dropped on the spot....good times.... :D
FYI, for anyone intending on using the Diana buckshot in their Adler, you can only fit four rounds in the tube, good cartridge to use though, just ask these two pigs.

If there is one thing, OK several actually, BUT this continually referring to the offspring of animals as "BABIES" ; NO they are NOT!!!
In this case, it's a PIGLET, FFS  I thought as hunters, we of all people could use the correct description. :(

Phew, rave over, feel better. :D

Nah didn't take any for the table on this occasion, I'm not a fan of boar and the sucker had pellets hit all the choice cuts so I left them.....back there again this Friday for round two......have been hunting that paddock for about a year now ( probably a dozen trips give or take) and have sighted pigs twice but haven't managed to get a round or arrow into one, always signs of them passing through but since the grass has grown and the billabongs are full they are living in there, was great to finally nail a couple, missed/spooked a few too, came up on a good mob bedded down in the grass with 308 (Lithgow) in hand and had failure feed and stove pipe problems with lucky 13 ten shot mag, lucky pigs, I was close enough to spit on them, they all scattered and lived to fight another day........Friday can't come soon enough.....
