Through the warmer months here in northern Victoria I keep a shovel on my back veranda, one at my chook shed and another at my workshop door.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Man! That would freak me too, OB. Had a few close calls out fishing on my own. Somewhat of a snake magnet, some say.

We have quite a few snakes getting about here. One lives in or hangs out regularly by a culvert about 60m from the house. I'm quite happy to leave them be unless they decide to live too close to the house, like establishing a morning sunning spot just out the back door. Then it's bye bye Joe Blake.

We have skinks around our houses. They help keep the snakes at a distance

I would beg to differ on that.
As a young boy, I was helping my father clean out an old (dirt floor) shed before concreting it.

There was an old radiata pine plank that had been there for :unknown: ,,,, and when he turned it over with the spade, there was half a dozen skinks and a three foot tiger snake under it.
Shared accommodation I think the terminology would be.

Unusual. We have a few skinks, some decent sized ones and very rarely have snakes around. They also keep the food source down.
