Gun oil and lubricants scent and deer question

Deer hunting and scent question... Some of you, including yours truly use rag with Innox on it to wipe the metal parts of a rifle, before it goes back into storage. Also read about 'silllicon rag'... I am not sure if that stinks, but Innox stinks. So wondering whether that on a rifle (even after the rifle has been wiped before going bush) would act as a massive deer repellent, even minute quantities of it?

And what's the alternative?

If the wind turns, the animals will smell YOU, long before they smell the oil, and its your scent that will make them run. Do not worry yourself at all about the smell of the oil or leather or anything else. Thats not going to scare the animals away.
The smell of man is what they fear.

I use lanolin based oil because it smells more natural than many other oils. It just seems to make sense. Does it make a difference, I dont know, so as wayno mentioned, if the wi d is in the wrong direction expect them to smell you.
