How do you fellas rate 223 on dogs? Particularly in the 150-300 yard range. Enough grunt or go the 22 250?

And No 6mm if I want that I’ll go better at 6.5.

If not .243, go 22-250 out that far...

I've got the "Wildfire" and found some of the US calls on it not much use at all, like the Deer, Bear etc. The bird calls are good as is the wolf and some coyote. The group coyote calls I'm not too keen on and I've also downloaded a few farmyard animal calls as well.
FoxBusters have a great bird call and works well for cats, foxes and dogs.
In my area there is no deer so these might work elsewhere.
I find that the call can be set up upwind and away from your hide and this helps keep the dogs and foxes and cats attention on the call and away from you.
I also find that a fox whistle works well too.
The calls are not cheap but if your getting a bounty that'll help - none over here.

I wouldn't worry about a 22-250; Got the Tikka 6.5mm, use it; my mate uses a 270win and reckons anything under is too small and just asking to get bit!

Mines a 243w with 75gr Speer H.P., works very well. so the 6.5mm should have something around that weight etc....

Got 2 dogs with the 223 last week actually. This one was the longest kill with my 223 that I've measured, 376metres

It was actually with a OSA 55gr seirra blitzking. I was out shooting the small aninals that eat sugar cane, and well and truely didnt expect to have to take that kind of shot at a dog, but he saw me as i saw him so i had no choice.

Mmm wasnt exactly a bang flop. He hit the ground where i shot him, but bucked around on the ground a fair while. Where I've circled is where it hit, then the large patch of blood on his chest is where part of the bullet left, i never would of thought it would make it all the way through at that distance. Well and truely more ass then class.

So he had to aim 30" high ( presuming the 150yd zero ), unless he had a 400yd dial in.
Quite do-able if you know your rifle, an excellent shot if it was a hold-over situation.
It's when someone tells me that they shot something @ x- long range with their favorite "loudenboomer" that is zeroed "at 100", then tell you they just aimed straight at it, that's when I reach for the salt bowl.

Thats a great graph thanks for that, i see on the osa website they say 3200fps, I'm not sure exactly what speed they do out of my 22" howa.

Would you of expected an exit hole? Must of just avoided every bone aye?

I have measured the OSA / ADI 55 gr Game King and Blitz King out of a 24in Howa at 3115 fps. One is head stamped OSA and the other ADI not sure which without looking again, just found it strange.

Yeah mate iv got mine set 1" high at 100m, it felt pretty wrong holding the crosshairs that high above him. I had estimated that i wanted to hold it about half a meter above him, as I said before, it was more ass then class

I ran my 5.6 x 50 mag with 55gr bullets @ 3300 f/s sighted 1.5" high at 100m for a 225m zero and it would drop 5" at 300m and be 18" low at 400 with about 500ft/lb of energy left. Sighting in that bit higher can give a handy increase in usable distance.

Yeah she was healthy and quiet , got to within 150 or so mtrs shot with 22-250 would have been nice to try the 7mm mag
out but was in a hurry to get down to it as the farmer was keeping a eye on her while she was keeping an eye on his chooks
Yeah Oldbloke mechanically both knees are ok but the 190mm clot behind the right knee is giving me some
grief pain, swelling and such but other than that alls good can't walk far so most of my shooting will be from the ute
for awhile to come but that's the way life is just keep throwing one leg in front of the other and carry on

seasons like this all of their prey will be in good breeding mode
I saw tracks of a bitch already with pups so I suppose they are gearing up for a big season this year having early pups

Funny ya should say that granddad I found some tracks coming in from the state forest towards my dam this morning. They weren't big tracks but they were fairly deep for the size so maybe a bitch carrying a bit of extra weight. Couple of long nights sitting on the fence line coming up!
