So much tacticool crap passes for a knife these days. Chinese made steel is always going to be inferior.

I own several knives, but these are my favorites. Top is an Estwing with blood groove I bought 30 years ago. Try finding one now, and below is a much newer but old school design Sheffield Skinner made by A.Wright and Sons. Proper high carbon steels. I'm guessing the Estwing is D2 and the Sheffield is 1070 or 1090.

I avoid chinese crap where ever possible.... including knives...
Never bought coldsteel before, but did so for the Tanto as one of the young ones is into Japanese Language etc.... and Its a Japanese made - Japanese style knife so.... all good there.... picked one up for myself as well... just 'cause.

The Leatherneck I didnt need, but its kinda similar style to a Ka-bar ..(1217 fighting knife, which I'm also after). I didnt know it was Taiwanese made until after purchase, but its German D2 steel... Both are quality high carbon CroMo stock...Tanto is VG1 apparently... Not cheap knives, but they are kinda tacticool though I do prefer conventional leather sheathes, these ones lock in very 'positively'...

And how does one use these Tacticool knives for hunting? can't imagine they'd be much chop when it comes to skinning or butchering an animal. :unknown:

I might have one of the Estwings sitting in my kit somewhere, all leather washers for the handle and mine has a wooden endcap (is that the correct terminology? either way it looks pretty much identical too yours.

Also have a few others here too Bokers, Buck etc, none of them I really use for hunting purposes, mainly use the cheap butchers knife these days (good enough for my butcher to use good enough for me to use too I reckon and they tend to hold a good edge and are easy enough to get a good edge on too and for $20 who gives a rats freckle what happens to em. :drinks:

How would one use ANY knife for hunting?
What is a 'hunting' knife anyway? I would say one that does more than one specific job...is a skinning knife necessary for skinning?

Box cutters is good for gutting bunnies. Expose just enough blade to gut the belly skin and there is no chance of accidentally slicing into the sh*t bag.

This post got me laughing earlier this year hunting goats we ran into a mob and shot 2 of them, goats are so stupid it makes you ask why they are not extinct, they hang around when you have dropped a couple especially the young ones, you can literally walk up to them and catch em , anyhow we had exhausted our ammo only had 5 in the vanguard and howa shooting in thick scrub we couldnt hit FA after the shooting stopped my mate was about 200m from me as i walked up i could see him running around like an idiot trying to catch a young goat no ammo to finish as i got close he was sat down sweating and cursing looked down on the deck he had chucked his "tactical" gerber at it as a last resort before he gassed out hiting it clean through the neck! From about 3 metres wtf ! I asked him if he had a red dot on that F___ker , just bought a 10 round mag kit for my vanguard cus of this scenario!
