police and parks rangers were checking up at Lerderderg

Post by pete1 » 24 Jul 2016, 10:30 pm

So on Saturday night police and park rangers were checking up on hunters at Lerderderg State Park. i left the guns at home that weekend and went 4x4 instead, so don't know what there intent was, is it regular through there?
I presume there just checking licences and firearm registration.

I far as I am aware, as I researched if I could hunt there, you are not allowed to hunt in lederderg because it's a State 'Park' not a State 'Forest'. I could be wrong, but that was the conclusion that I came to after scouring the net for a while looking for info.

No hunting, no firearms permitted in the park.

I would expect the cops to be in the bush, hoping to steal more guns from the otherwise law abiding hunter who may inadvertently stray over the imaginary line separating the pristine parklands of Lerderberg, from the ordinary huntable Wombat SF.......

While theres a crime wave underway in the suburbs, yes, at least 1 more overnight, aggravated Burglary, 2 in hospital..... but make sure the foxes are safe in the 'park'...  ..

Which part of the forest did you encounter them? Give us the name of the track. The only way police would throw resources that way is if there had been compliants of shooting in the state park. It is extremely rare to see cops in the Lerderderg/Wombat area unless it is the solo squad doing trail bike enforcement stuff, or the occasional divvy van that got lost.

Yep, must have been a sigting/complaint. God knows how many times Ive been in the wombat SFand northern lerderderge (before it was park) , never seen a parks ranger or cop, ever.

Police do operations now and then all around the various forests and parks of Victoria.

Checking licenses, game permits etc.

Saw them down OBriens Rd two parks vehicles and one patrol with couple of cops in it.
They asked us do we have any firearms with us, we all said no and then they moved on. They were very polite about it.
I reckon probably sat on the roads listening at night.
Plenty of shotgun shells lying on the roads and tracks as you drive along and damaged signs so that may be why they're there.

Just having firearms in that area would be an offence anyway so like you mentioned, probably just looking for the vandals.

The ol "a few dipsticks make us all look bad" trick. And the annoying part is wombat SF is right there. It's not that hard to check a map.
