If I knew what a Gatta was I'd be able to tell you if I've ever done it.

I though a gatt was what a firearm turned into if you hold it sideways , gangsta style

Guessing it's some secret Mexican business considering the OP and first 3 posters all hail from south of the border. Won't have to deal with this once the wall is built :)

Seems to be a National Park so no firearms allowed?

Yep, a few national parks in Victoria can be hunted, sometimes just for a few months of the year. Wonangatta valley is just one. Must get there one day.

Yeah I've been hunting up that way, not quite up at Gatta but in the Buckland valley which is one way to get to Gatta . Bloody hard country to hunt in but a Sh!itload of deer. The track in would be hard on a bike I reackon, couple of river crossings from the Buckland way but still doable when the river isn't too high.

How hard are we talking? Would stock four-wheel-drives get through or you need something more heavy duty?

Depends which way your are going. If via Crooked River/Dargo you will definitely need a capable 4WD,. I reckon the other way in you could do in a stock 4wd with at tyres. Best way and fastest way in is via dirt bike. I've done it several times on the bike from Dargo side. Much easier when you ride and someone else drives.

Well mate, I don't go in when the gates are closed, but have a few friends who do, some say the bike helps carry the load on the uphills, an saves some leg work on the downs.. its a fair trek however, from the heli pad into the gatta valley.. apparently the reward can be there though.
