Story reads a bit weird, but a lucky escape none the less. Be interesting to know what calibre rifle the environmentalist was carrying.

Wow.Seriously fortunate. When I did a buffalo safari the guide was telling us about a bow hunter from the states who placed his shot to high on a buffalo at 40 metres then stood up in disgust and started walking away and this bull has seen him and charged. He pulled it up so close blood went all over his legs. That was 3 shots to the head with a 416 Rigby.Bit to exciting for my taste I dropped mine at about 100 metres and put 4 in it from my 7mm rem mag then closed to about 60 metres and did another three. Then put one in its spine at about 20 metres then it went down for good. They keep getting up and if they see you they will try to kill you

Yeah... I can't help but feel there's a little more to the story.

I, too, was wondering what cal was used

All sounds very dramatised.

"I looked up at it, I yelled to Dave 'you've got to drop this' and he put one bullet between his eyes"

Dave must be a HELL of a shot to just pop off a surprise offhand shot between the eyes of a suddenly charging buffalo.

And it also says it took 4 shots. Poorly written and a tad confusing

One thing is for sure, he is lucky. Those Buffs are a hardy beast and certainly is no time for fooling around. 4 shoots from a 7 mm Rem Mag says it all me thinks :wtf:

I know. Then it got up and started looking for us.I was lucky it just kept turning on the spot trying to find us.It went down 3 times. It was an old bull and I could clearly see the spine when I took the last shot.I was out of ammo cause I had to zero plus I had got a monster boar 2 days earlier.I tried to board the plane with 50 rds of corelockt in my hand luggage. That caused a stir at Perth airport and I ended up getting 20 rds of highland 160gr PSP at Katherine

On our hill block at Roelands we had an invasion of scrub bulls from the adjoining property. The next door property was about 1500 Ha and the owner brought down about 300 NW cattle to feed lot.We had teenage pretty friesians.Where do you reckon all the bulls went.every few days I sloped up the hill to check the herd and one time there was a big red bull with them and I spanked it in the chest straight on with a 175gr Winnie fail safe and it went right through it.We had red calfes for quite a while.Another time. Not at band camp there were to little tan micky bulls.got them too.Happy days Bull hunting 20 k from Bunbury

The guy doing the shooting was Dave Lindner. He knows a bit about shooting buffalo. He was apparently using a 8x57 that also knew a hint or two about killing buff. No lack of experience there.

If he brained it with a 8x57 at close range it would drop.Hitting them in the heart lungs at a bit of distance is best but things dont always work that way.Seen a clip on cape buffalo shooting in Africa where they are stalking up to a bull and spook a female that was down in the long grass. The guide dropped it with probably a 375H/H right between the eyes.It was wounded by a snare on its back leg and it just went them
