Eildon National Park

Post by WayneO » 06 Jan 2017, 2:58 pm

Has anyone here been down around Jameson Creek area in Eildon National park lately? I am thinking about spending a week or so hunting in that area in June and was wondering if its worth while or if I should rather look further east.

Yip, and hunting is allowed in the South east section, so I am quite keen to have a look and see.

I believe that applies to the National park but not the state forest surrounding it... thats the way I read it anyway.

Of course, the Park is what the OP asked about.

I Hunted the area for a few years about 12 years ago. In all of that state park no hunting of pests/vermin all year.

They just allow deer hunting for some of the year.

No goats or pigs there to my knowledge. Always a few Sambar though.

But if you shot a wild dog or pig, I'm not sure who would complain.

How the hell does this make any sense? Sure, take a rifle so you can bag yourself a deer, just don't upset the ferals, we need to protect them...

It makes sense for the anti-gun nuts for obvious reasons, and it makes sense for the the Greens as it keeps people out of their precious parks.
It doesn't make sense to anybody with a brain though.

It was a no go area for many years like the rest of the state parks but various hunting clubs/associations ( don't remember who ) negotiated to allow deer hunting in that section. . But that's all they got. Better than nothing. But yep a bit crazy to legally be required not to shoot vermin etc that you might see. :unknown:

The regulation is that you are not allowed to hunt feral animals in the recognised deer habitat.
The reasons are irrelevant. It is your choice how you deal with it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Going to go up there in March and do a bit a walk about and see if its worth spend any reasonable time up there. I know the fishing is quite good as a few mates have had some good days up there from the banks.

Gday,
ive hunted around there, my only tip is preferably to stay in the Park than the SF, mostly because of the hounds. its out of season now so depending when you're going , if out of season then the Deer are back in the gulleys.. plenty of deer!
cheers
