22-250 mid range varmints

Finally got out to snipe a few Bunnies with the 22-250, conditions were very hot with no wind and a ever present mirage.
The first victim was shot through the neck at 387yds and was partly obscured by scrub.
Second at 385yds with the bullet striking him in the chest.
Third was a head shot at 380yds, meant to hit him in the chest but the rifle was shooting a little high due to the strong heat.
The final one was shot at 410yds and copped a bullet in chest with it exiting out the far side rear leg.
The paddock was like a bloody oven and the car go so hot that you could not rest bare skin on metal....reckon I lost a kilo in sweat
Anyway there are still Bunnies around, little and big ones and at one stage towards dusk all you could see was them chasing each other in and out of their burrows and through the thick pastures, making it impossible to film and shoot.
Should have done a Feral rabbit doco because it was quite interesting watching their territorial antics and games of chasey

I don't know much at all about the 22/250 as a caliber, so enlighten me, what weight of pill were you throwing at flopsie, mopsie and cottontail, and how fast?

Sometimes mate , but its pretty hard to film and shoot them as well, they never seem to stand still and by the time you squeeze the trigger they have gone out of the cameras viewfinder.
Have shot some but mainly when Im not filming.

I shoot only factories which I batch according to bullet runout, premium ammo thats been batched is on par IMO with good handloads so I dont bother.
The ammo I shoot is Winchester ballistic silvertips in 55gn the velocity is about 3680fps I sight in for 200yds and have worked out a ballistics and wind deflection chart for long range...you can see it under the wiper of the VW in my latest vid.
I have used this caliber to knock of bunnies past 1/2 a km and when compared to a .223 it sure does have an edge with flatter trajectory and more knock down energy.
In still conditions, I reckon bunnies out to 600yds would not be safe...only drawback is its quite a bit louder than the .223 and its harder on barrels but the extra punch is well worth it and it sure does a great job at anchoring rodents.

Never have got into reloading, so I'm content with factory stuff.
The one particular brand that gives me consistent satisfaction is the Winchester JHP which they claim to be 4,000 fps.

Of course one brand suiting one particular rifle doesn't mean it will perform the same in another rifle.

But take note gents,,, I'm not consistently knocking off Bugs at the longer range like Elmer is.

Hi mate,
I normally spend about 4-5 hours out there, I get there at 3 (during summer) set up the gear and wait.The bunnies dont come out till around 3hours before dusk so I use the interim period to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
