Ouch, that's gotta hurt - Ice makes barrel burst

Saw this in a south island nz gun shop a couple of weeks ago. Story the unfriendly guy behind the counter gave me was that ice formed in barrel.... That'd rattle the ice out of your eyebrows

Have seen similar before....and saw it happen to. Ruger M77 in 7mm RM. Guy pulled the trigger on a hand load minus the powder. Primer forced the projectile up the bore a third of the way. Don't asked me how or why, the next live round was loaded and set off ...split the barrel like the banana...3 ways... totally wrecked the action and stock, but the guy walked away with a bit of schrapnel cuts, mild powder burns and ringing ears....so so lucky.

I've got a pick of it somewhere and will try to load up load it....UNBELIEVABLE MESS

Moral to the story, pay attention when your reloading, and check the bore...

Thin fluted barrel + obstruction = bad news ( no matter what brand ).
