Who here pumped for the season and going for a shot at opening?

Im hearing great reports of duck numbers out west where Im going, almost unprecented numbers is the word on the street.
The rice was outrageous late last year so heres hoping it continues for the Vic season.

This is probably a really stupid question, but seeing as I've never been duck hunting - do you need a dog? Or is it practical to get the downed birds yourself? I suppose a lot of it depends if you are actually shooting over water?

My experience on rice has been no but it would be nice, the bays are only shallow so no issue there.
Half my mates dont have dogs which doesnt stop them from going and retrieving their own, all depends on the body of water and positioning as all shots are generally well within 50m.

Don't like the taste of duck so I have no interest in shooting them.

Muttonbird? Could you like be any more of a Tasmanian? :P
Ducks serve their purpose in sausages and salami, but the only problem is you gotta be good enough to shoot enough of them :D

Mutton birds are a type of seabird. The young are taken from their nests by men punching tiger snakes in the face and deep fried until half the neighbourhood smells like anchovies.

Opening was good, nice feed of blackie breast tonight
