Northern territory hunting

Post by Bang-sticks » 12 May 2017, 7:19 pm

Hi all. Planning a trip to the territory later in the year and lookin for some advice.

What's the law regarding interstate travel to the nt with Firearms? Do I need a permit?

Also what about travelling into national parks with Firearms in the vehicle? Not for hunting but in the vehicle as I have no-where else o store them.

Thanks in advance

Gday bangsticks
Don't carry a firearm in a national park it is a prohibited item and could cost you your firearms and license I'm fairly certain this applies nation wide(happy to be corrected).
You can always store your firearms at a lgs or even at the local cop shop.

Mate if you can find anything that confirms that then I'm happy to say I'm wrong but I haven't yet

If in any doubt, contact the NT firearms division (whatever they are called). A quick email so you have the response in writing.

Anyone want to share any "secret spots" that I should check out in my travels

Check with national parks as well as NT firearms. NP are likely have a different interpretation of things than NT police. I asked a district ranger if I could camp with a bow securely locked in my car in a NP in SA, his answer was NO, as they consider a bow a firearm even though SAPOL do not. When I pointed this "discrepancy" out I got a pretty hostile response.

I know it was tongue in cheek Gwion but, Wolf Creek is in W.A, south of Halls Creek.

Not a town but a f"ing big hole in the ground, Wolf Creek Crater. The original movie started out with a group of back-packers visiting the site.
