How can I share hunting locations with mates via iPhone

Post by d3driver » 13 Jun 2017, 10:32 pm

Hi there, myself and 2 mates want to make a shared online map where we can all add pins for locations. We'd like to be able to add to it from our iphones. This would allow us to see where our own and each others places to hunt are.

Does anyone know a way to do this? I have set up a hunting locations map in Google Maps, and it's visible on the phones, but I can't add a new location to it and have that location appear on another phone or on the map online...

Any help appreciated.

Maybe try google earth? You could maintain a master kml file containing all your waypoints which you could share between your mates through a cloud storage setup like Dropbox or google drive.

Another option could be the HEMA Explorer app. You have to pay for it and it takes up a lot of space on your device but it has good topographic maps that work without mobile network. The app also has a cloud storage system for all waypoints you save, so if your mates all use the same account you'd automatically get waypoints updated when someone adds a new one.

I'd try MudMap3 I have it for riding and 4x4ing and you can save tracks, points of interest etc. and just email them if your mate has MudMap3 he can just open the emailed file using mud map and all your maps and data will open on his phone.

Can you not use the iPhone's built in 'Share My Location' in messages? Keeps things rather simple.

I've possibly not been clear enough...
3 guys, all want to share a common map with "pins" containing information, on iphones. Any of them to update the map to add more "pins" from their phone, and the updates to be visible and editable on the other phones. Don't need to know where each other are, other apps work perfectly for that, such as Find my Friends"

Thanks

I think mud maps 3 would be as close as you could get. You would have to email the files they won't share automatically. but you can put notes up track maps time spent travelling Points Of Interest all maps are free to download once you have the app.

In the latest Android version there is an option to share your location via email. It's in the menu. Seems to work.

How about a shared map or something for forum members, mods?

Plenty would contribute I'm sure and could be handy.

Is such a thing possible?
