We don't use deer feeders either.

They are around, it's just not a popular hunting style here. I considered getting one to bow hunt goats over a water hole but I find spot and stalk is what I get the most satisfaction from. I believe that is the case for many of us

I dont think building a structure in trees in State forest or National Parks would go down well though. That is where most hunt deer in Victoria.

You expect us to haul out a tree stand to the middle of the bush, set it up high in a tree, wait, shoot a deer and then haul it back? To much work ;)

I'm going to try a tree stand in at a new deer property. There's plenty of deer but I was thinking this may help with selecting the right animal.

Actually, I sit on a camp stool while calling feral dogs, foxes, cats etc. keeps me toosh dry!

I lucked onto an English shooting stick a while back, cast alloy handles and a leather seat, best thing to cart around paddocks & sit on. Funny how purposed designed things really do suit their intended use- keeping your bum dry in this case :drinks:

Not very popular here, because we are not allowed (in Vic), legally, to use feeders, so that sort of destroys the whole popularity of a tree stand idea. However they are certainly used when it's an established game trail.

Do many stalkers or sit and wait hunters bring a portable stool with them?

Like the 3 pole and a canvas seat. I bring this with me all the time.

I had one of those. Bit hard on the nuts and was worn out so traded it in for the one I posted earlier. It serves as a beer and chips table in camp too.

Thats the trade off.

How heavy is your chair?. It kinda looks like it was made of timber.

How does the hard seat compare to something like this which would be lighter.

Aha the old canvas stool. A good choice. Had I seen one might have got one. P. S. my stool is aluminium. Pretty light, but yes a bit hard.

PPS, can't put a glass of beer on a canvas stool.

I sometimes use these, but a 4 legered one, weighs not much more and alot more comfy.
There handy to take a break on long hikes or shooting off a stump.

I think the main difference is the available hunting terrain vs population density, we have the luxury or being able to walk around for days without seeing or hearing another hunter without putting in much effort.

I've heard stories of whitetail opening days where its gunshots all day long around you, id be sitting still too!

Yeh Boort, Boart were a former contractor.

Past Warnnambool, access through private and restricted properties hence quiet.

Too quiet is no good either.

there were 585994 deer hunters last year in my state most are in the wood on nov 15 when our gun hunting opens 40% of the deer are taken in them 2 weeks of gun hunting if you try stalking deer at that time you risk bumping the deer to other hunters.
