Hi guys

Anyone been out Marysville way for deer? There’s huntable State Forrest just east of town. Wondering if it is worth the trip to go for a couple of nights

Thanks

Used to go out that way a lot when younger (pre fires) and it was always too thick (semi temperate fermy type crap with leaches) for any serious stalking, no idea what its like now.
More than likely there is deer out there, access and/or hunting pressure could be an issue but its probably worth a quick look, and hey if it is a goldmine I doubt anyone online will be giving that info out!

anytime is worth the trip

I know of a heap of sambar not to far from there but in the deer protected area
this time of year they are closer to water and sign is a bit harder to find
the joe blakes are about in good numbers as well so wear gaiters
old sign is good to find as you know at least they have been there

let us know if you go and how you went

They are there mate.

I normally go a little further north-east from there around Rubicon, Jamieson and Howqua Hills areas.

I got a Sambar doe near Howqua a few months ago, and last time I was at Rubicon a trio of guys hunting with hounds got a buck (then had to go into the bush for 2 hours at 10pm to find their dog who'd found something more interesting and gone walkabout )
