Most reviews look very positive, although one or two were of a faulty unit and one was of what looked to be faulty, but dude just didn't computer good. Needs a PC to really go to town on the setttings, fine by me.

Very nice of them to put an external screen so the game can check out their selfies!

They definitely help pattern game, I've been able to rule out wasting hunting time in unproductive areas and concentrate on more productive areas/times of day by using mine. I've also recorded things I didn't expect, including deer on a property where I was only expecting goats.

this is really good advise and is why you would want them
the only reason I was told not to buy the cheaper models is they have no support available as in updating software ect, if they stop working for some reason
but if they only cost $60 who would care if after warranty they fall apart
the quality on mine that sell for around the $150 is set at medium so I can get way more movies and photo's but is still very good quality
you can also buy lock up boxes for them I did but am too lazy to set them up although the teck screw idea is a good one with these

I could talk about it, but what's the point. Ordered X 2. See how we go.

Wombat, YoungBuck, yep hope so too.

I'm fairly certain it's not, but not 100% In case it is, I'll have to charge-back... But, I'm like that, almost always works out for me.

For now, I am more excited about Martini Henry brass I have on order.

Ouch. 2G is no turned off from Telstra and Optus. Vodophone may go for a little longer then its gone as well. The cheapest 3G camera you can probably buy is this one.

It would be good inside a house or structure though, remote security without a broadband or landline connection.

I have a few home brews...made by a chap in Paynesville Vic....he uses Sony S 600 cameras and they take a fantastic pic....Afew years ago i had two stolen on private property....they were secured to a large tree with half inch stainless steel security straps, so would have taken a lot of effort to get them.........It was at the start of the roar for the Red deer....not long after a headless deer was found on the property not far from where my cameras were....He is not cheap with his cameras though in comparison to what is available today....they were $500 each....

Sooo, Being a tight arse I have ordered a cheapy just to try. It should arrive in about 3 weeks, from China naturally. But also where I intend using it there is a lot of bike riders, shooters etc. Not a long way from nearest town too. So theft is a definite possibility and the G3 is very patchy.

I intend to make a simple metal strap and tek screw it to the trees. (painted grey or black)

So a couple of Qns.

1. Where do you blokes usually fix them height wise, low, high, eye level? Beside game trails? And if its high how do you get it up there, I aint carting no ladder in the bush.
2. Do the animals smell them? If so how to you remove your smell?
3. Do you add any form of cammo?

Usually about chest height but it really depends on the angle of the tree you are attaching it to - i.e. whether its slanting to one side or not. This is where having a screen built into the unit is handy, you can trigger it to take a shot and see if you have got the area you want covered.
I've also found i've had to wedge a branch at the top in behind the unit to get the camera right angle. Again, all comes down to the tree you are putting it on.

Oldbloke wrote:2. Do the animals smell them? If so how to you remove your smell?

No idea if they can smell them. I have some animals look at the camera as it goes off in the dark. Makes a slight ticking noise when taking shots and they see the mild illumination of the IR LEDs.

Oldbloke wrote:3. Do you add any form of cammo?

Nope. Mines already a camo colour anyway.

As a general rule, knee height works well for me. I don't use any sort of camo but I try to make sure that they aren't obvious to a casual observor. Don't put a camera on the most attention grabbing tree. Make sure you consider the trajectory of the sun overhead, a camera pointing into the sun will just give you a heap of crappy pictures.

I find anywhere from 3-4 feet high is a good height. Never had much luck putting a camera up in a tree looking down.

Yes the animals can smell them. I have gotten many photos and videos off the cams of deer, bears, squirrels and other creatures licking and trying to eat the camera.

Probably most trail cameras are sold in some form of camo.
