Today was a Mid range gong shoot at Seymour Black Powder Club.
This 4 shot group is possibly the best I’ve ever shot!
It’s a smidge under 6 inches at 600 yards. Shot off cross sticks with my (Pedersoli) Sharps .40-65 loaded with 57 grains 3F powder (compressed), an over powder card wad, wax based grease cookie, 2 tissue wads and a loose seated, cast 420 grain bullet.
Don’t ask me to ever do it again...coz I’m retiring

I'd be happy with that if it were my accurised .243 with handloads from prone with a bipod and rear bag.

The "Big Buff" was the first event for the day. My subsequent targets went to hell in a hand basket...like, BIG time! lol

Were they shooting off a bench or cross sticks? We only shoot shoot off cross sticks.

the guys were shooting off crossed sticks with all sorts of buffalo type single shot smoky guns
I must say I was impressed with the guys who did hit the buff
one guy sitting shooting off his knees shot then looked up and started to count till he heard the gong
all very good fun

Quigley is one of my favourite movies but it irritates me to hell that they dubbed in the Winchester lever action noises when he opens and closes the falling block. Sharps actions are nearly silent.

Bloody hell, Noisy, I think you've just set smokeless powder technology back by a century shooting black like that

I watched a cool western the other day and every time a bullet hit the rock it made a ricochet sound.I would of thought a lead bullet would go splat.Its a bit like the squealing car tires and they are on a gravel road

The audible ricochet is an effect of a deformed bullet spinning through the air, lots of ricochets don't make any noise, but are at least as deadly. I've had richochet's off dirt, branches, fencing wire, all sorts of stuff will deflect a bullet if it hits it just right, without always being audible.

The movie was Winchester 73 with James Stewart I would of thought a big fat slow moving lead bullet would go splat rather than ricochet like a copper plated projectile doing around 3000 fps
